Darrel K. Stevens, 97, of Creston, passed away Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at EveryStep Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022. at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston. Pastor Delores Doench will officiate. The service will be available via Livestream on the Pearson website. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at the funeral home.

Darrel Kenneth Stevens, the son of Clarence Raymond and Grace Violet (Ellis) Stevens was born on May 24, 1924, in Adams County. He graduated from Cromwell High School with the class of 1942. On Feb. 10, 1950, Darrel married Dorothy Ellen Hood in Creston. Three children: Sandra, Gary and Anita would bless this union.
Early in life Darrel owned and operated a truck for hauling livestock to the stock yards. He also worked for the Rural Electric Association, Golden Sun Feeds and Purina. He then began his employment with the United States Postal Service, where he would work for over 30 years. In addition to his other jobs he farmed for over 50 years. Being a farmer was his true passion.
Darrel was a member of the Elks Lodge in Creston and the Platte Center Presbyterian Church. He was a former 4-H leader for the Horse and Riders.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Sandra (Tom) Schmitt of Leland, North Carolina, Gary (Mary Craig) Stevens of Stuart and Anita (Eldon) Naven of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Brian (Lynn) Schmitt, Laura (Chris) Condon, Danielle Naven and Matthew Naven; great grandchildren: Austin Schmitt, Amanda Schmitt, Cole Condon and Eric Johnson; along with many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Darrel in death was his wife Dorothy in 2010; parents, Clarence and Grace; mother and father-in-law, Lenora and Carl Hood; brother, Jack Stevens; sisters-in-law: Marie Stevens and JoAnn Hood; brother-in-law, Merton Hood and nephew, Scott Hood.
