John Wilson Cline, 92, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at Greater Regional Health in Creston.

John Wilson Cline, son of Wilson Ewing and Grace V. (Hill) Cline, was born Nov. 15, 1929, on the century family farm near Export, Pennsylvania. John grew up on the farm and loved being a three-generation caretaker of the land. John graduated from Franklin Township High School with the class of 1947.

John farmed with his father before being drafted into the U.S. Army Dec. 30, 1954. John was honorably discharged June 10, 1955, then served the next three years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

John met Margaret Louise Moore at a square dance and they were married in September 1956. To this marriage was born three sons: Dale in 1958, Darwin in 1961, and Dwight in 1963. John continued farming and in addition, he worked at Gibson Electric Machine Shop in Delmont for several years. John began as a postal carrier sub and eventually became a full time city carrier for the U.S. Postal Department.

Louise passed away March 16, 2004, and John moved to Tingley, where he resided for the remainder of his life.

John was a quiet, humble man that loved his family and his country. He was proud of his time in the Army and a highlight of his life was going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC. He was an active member of the Ringgold Post No. 172, American Legion, in Mount Ayr. He loved dancing and attending the dances at the legion. John enjoyed restoring antique tractors, or as he would call it, “putts-in!” John was an avid hunter in his younger years and always had an interest in guns, Lionel trains and certain coins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Louise; grandson, Joey Cline; daughter-in-law, Brenda (Pratt) Cline; grandson-in-law, Sean Glew; sisters, Ethel (Bob) Cline of West Union, IL and Betty (Joe) Sauer of Verona, PA.
