William Ernest “Ernie” Marshall Millard, son of Eugene Millard and Irene (Hayes) Millard, was born Feb. 1, 1949, in Lenox. He graduated from Creston Community High School in 1967.
On Dec. 18,1971, Ernie was united in marriage to Monica Sue Cheers. They settled in Creston, where they brought two daughters, Carey Ann and Carla Kay, into the world.
Despite losing his beloved wife and daughter in 1978, Ernie devoted his life to raising his daughter Carla. She was his pride and joy along with his granddaughter, Monica Ann and great-granddaughter, Maci Lynn. They were people Ernie would talk a great deal of.
Ernie can be remembered through his employment at Akin Building Center where you never found him without a smile or lending a hand to customers as the “Tall Drink of Water” most knew him as. In his later years, he also worked as a paper carrier delivering the Des Moines Register with his granddaughter Monica Ann.
Ernie is survived by his daughter, Carla Millard (Kirk Jensen) of Creston; granddaughter, Monica (husband Brandon) Parsons; one great-granddaughter, Maci Lynn of Shannon City; two sisters, Evelyn Millard of Keytesville, Mo. and Alicia Harrison of Des Moines and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Monica Sue Millard; daughter, Carey Ann Millard; brother, Ed Millard and grandson William Scott.
