Earl Albert Vorrath, 88 years, 1 month and 15 days, of rural Casey, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at his home.
Earl was born on October 2, 1933, in Adair County to Don and Katie (Marckmann) Vorrath. He was raised south of the Richland and Fontanelle areas where he attended Richland School. At 19, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was on inactive duty during the Korean War from Feb. 18, 1952 to Feb. 9, 1956, plus four years in ready reserve. He traveled to many different countries aboard the Tanker U.S.S. Taluga (AO-62).
After serving, he returned home where he started farming south of Greenfield and met the love of his life, Nola Huntsman, at Orves Diner in Creston.
On October 27, 1957, he was united in marriage to Nola Irene Huntsman in Thayer. They were blessed with four children: Arlynn, Rhonda, Leland, and Terry. They moved to the farm south of Casey in 1964, where he farmed up until his last day.
During his years, he farmed, raised crops, and livestock, but had many hobbies including fishing, boating, and tinkering in his machine shed. You could always find him with a camera or video camera in hand capturing many of his family’s memories. He was fascinated with technology and loved being on his computer to stay in touch with his old Navy buddies. If you knew him, you could tell he was proud of his service and had the best stories. He loved being with his family and always had a trick up his sleeve or a good joke to tell. He knew no stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone he met.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nola Vorrath; his children: Arlynn (Jane) Vorrath of Adair, Rhonda (Randy) Wheatley of Adair, Leland Vorrath of Adair and Terry (Carla Goetz) Vorrath of Adair; his grandchildren: Jason (Hope) Gettler, Stephanie (Brett) Dorsey, Ashley (Matt Bradley) Vorrath, Blake (Ashley Nelson) Vorrath, Lindsay (Luke) Dinkla, Megan (Kyle) Irlmeier, Jordan (Shelby) Wheatley, Tom (Yessenia) Vorrath, Rob Vorrath, Chanel (Ronnie) Edwards, Madison (Connor) Faust; his great-grandchildren: Shy (Matt) Bonnesen, Brooklyn (Joseph Hinton) Terry, Charlie (Juliet Shatkin) Terry, Molli and Keegan Gettler, Sophie and Blaize Dorsey, Harper, Boston and Barrett Dinkla, Aniston and Brant Irlmeier, Layten Wheatley, Yesselee, Zenlee and Xenialee Vorrath, Brock and Bennett Edwards, Lane Faust; his sister, Shirley Herrick of Norwalk; nephews; great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
