Lewis Dean Stowell, 95, of St. Augustine, Florida, went home to be with the Lord, March 29, 2021. Born in Guss, Iowa, in 1925, “Dean” was the baby of 10 siblings.
He joined the Navy in 1942, serving on several vessels during World War II. While stationed at Norfolk Naval Station, Dean traveled to Washington D.C. to attend a dance at the DC press club. There he met the love of his life, Mildred “Millie” Irene Stowell.
After the war, Dean and Millie married and lived in Creston. In 1957, Dean, Millie and their children Nancy Dawn and Donald Stowell moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where Dean had spent time while serving in the U.S. Navy. Gregory Stowell was born soon after and they raised their family in Ft. Lauderdale before moving to Okeechobee, then later St. Augustine, where they lived for 21 years.
Dean worked in construction for many years and retired from the Florida Department of Transportation. The family attended Anastasia Baptist Church.
Dean is survived by his children: daughter Nancy Dawn (Dennis) of St. Augustine, Florida, son Don Stowell (Keli) of Atlanta, Georgia, son Greg Stowell (Helen) of Orlando, Florida; brother-in-law Wayne Felker of Okeechobee, Florida; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life remembrance will be held during the family reunion scheduled for July.
