Floyd W. “Smitty” Smith, 85, of Creston, died Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Creston Specialty Care Center in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. in Creston.
A private family gathering will be Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton.

Floyd Wayne Smith, son of Robert Hamilton Smith and Inez Marie (Longenecker) Smith, was born June 27, 1935, in Arispe. He was educated in the Arispe schools and graduated with the class of 1954. Following his graduation, Floyd farmed in the Arispe area and in 1963, moved south of Creston.
Floyd began his trucking career in 1966, which he did into the later part of his life, primarily hauling livestock. He was a lifelong Union County resident. He was well known in the trucking world as “Smitty” or “Pedal Pusher.”
Floyd is survived by his two sons Daniel (Marilyn) Smith of Oquawka, Illinois and Doug (Kendyl) Smith of Smithshire, Illinois; two daughters Dawna McVey (Tim Boyce) of Little York, Illinois and Denise (Tim) Beck of Creston; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Raymond Smith and Paul Jean Smith and three sisters, Rosella Greimann, Grace Darlene Smith and Juanita Oakes.
