Makayla Burgmaier, 21, of Creston, entered her Heavenly home Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital within Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A Celebration of Life service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. in Creston, with Pastor William Richardson officiating. The family requests masks and will be following social distancing protocol. Burial will follow in Hill of Zion Cemetery east of Orient.

Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. The family will not be present at the visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Special Olympics or the Afton Assembly of God Church. The livestream can be viewed and condolences shared at www.powersfh.com.

Makayla Ann Burgmaier, daughter of Glenn David Burgmaier and Linda Ann (Green) Burgmaier, was born Jan. 21, 1999, in Des Moines. She graduated from Creston Community High School in 2018 and was an attendee of the Afton Assembly of God Church.

Makayla enjoyed school activities and attending prom. She was active in Special Olympics under the leadership of Randall Romesburg, participating in bowling, basketball and recumbent bicycling. Going to state competitions were highlights of her life.

Following graduation, Makayla worked for Innovative Industries for a year, where she made many new friends. Marcia White and her family were special people in her life, spending many hours giving her special care and extra opportunities. Makayla also enjoyed the time she spent with her dad on the farm and the time spent riding with him on several tractor rides.

Survivors include her father Glenn (Tammy) Burgmaier of Creston; her twin brother Dakota (girlfriend Cheyenne Parsons) Burgmaier of Creston; three half-brothers: Brandon Garner and Roger Garner of Creston and Derek (Amber) Fluckey of Afton; half-sister Brandi (Tony) Atkins of Creston; step-sister Heidi Brown of Creston; step-brother Cody (Sarah) Hudson of West Des Moines; grandmother Pat Green of Osceola; step-grandparents Margaret Burgmaier of Winterset, Ed Hanson of Creston; three aunts: Bonnie Olson of Rio, Wisconsin, Carla (Jerry) Couchman of Weldon and Julie (boyfriend Sandy Heidemann) LaFollette of Clive; uncles Lonnie (Diane) Burgmaier of Creston, Don Burgmaier of Des Moines and Gayle (Beth) Burgmaier of Creston; many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Makayla was preceded in death by her mother Linda Green, her grandparents Dwight Green and Ernest and Vivian Burgmaier.

Makayla will be remembered as the joy of her father’s life with her beautiful smile and her love for others. She “shall mount up with wings as eagles;… run, and not be weary;...walk, and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31
