Doris Overholser, 93, of Mount Ayr formerly of Diagonal, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at Diagonal Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. Memorials are to the United Church of Diagonal.
Doris was born Aug. 28, 1928, to Beatrice Merle (Everhart) and Vern Francis Brown in Mount Ayr. She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1946. Doris met the love of her life, William “Bill” Overholser and they were united in marriage Oct. 6, 1946, in Troy, Kansas.
They decided to be farmers, buying the home farm where Bill was born. They lived there for 35 years. Three wonderful sons: Ronald, Gary and Steven grew up here. They loved the farm life.
Doris was a member of United Church of Diagonal for many years. Doris was a homemaker and avid gardener. She always planted a very large garden with snow peas, carrots, potatoes, onions, sweet corn and many herbs. Doris was loved dearly by her family and many friends and will be missed.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Vern and Beatrice Brown; husband Bill and daughter-in-law Sue Overholser.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons: Ronald Overholser of Waukee, Gary (Janis) Overholser of New Market and Steven (Mary) Overholser of Powhatan, Virginia; four sisters: Bertha Jezek; Janis Sobotka, Evelyn Sickels and Donna Sickels; brother Vern Brown; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
