Donald Eugene Pool was born in Adair County, near the Richland community, Nov. 5, 1936. He was the only son born to Virgil Calvin and Mattie Marie (Carl) Pool. Being raised on the farm, Donnie grew to love farming and it would become his lifelong passion.

Donnie began farming on his own after purchasing a farm in Adair County, near Nevinville. During this time, he bought a feed grinder and provided grinding services for other area farmers and drove a school bus for several years. Donnie sold the Nevinville farm and continued farming near Corning, in Adams County. He later purchased a different farm and returned to the Nevinville area.

On June 27, 1958, Donald Eugene was united in marriage to Adella Ruth Britten in Greenfield. To this union, three children were born: Shelley, Kelly and Becky. Donnie was a family man and cherished the many family dinners and vacations together. He enjoyed gardening and supplying his neighbors and friends with his produce and walnuts he would gather. He loved camping, especially camping at the Iowa State Fair and the Clay County Fair in Spencer. Donnie also had a love for country music. Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard and Charley Pride were just a few of his favorite artists. Donnie and Adella attended many dances at the Chicken Inn and the Williamson Legion Hall and he was a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and participating in the many area parades and tractor rides. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and NCAA Basketball fan and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

After 60 years of marriage, his wife Adella passed away Nov. 8, 2019. Donnie is also preceded in death by an infant sister, Norma Jean Pool; his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Helen and Charles Britten and several aunts and uncles.

Donnie is survived by his three children: Shelley Carter of Creston, Kelly Pool of Orient and Becky Pool of West Des Moines; four grandchildren: Jared Carter, Tavian Rumple, Andrew (wife Ashley) Pool and Adam Pool (significant other Kelsey Wheeler); four great-grandchildren: Rohm and Adella Carter, Aiden Pool and Margo Pool; two sisters: Betty Sherer of Grundy Center and Peggy Pool of Des Moines; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
