During the Jan. 21 meeting of the Creston City Council, Creston Police Chief Cameron Hale presented Investigator Cory Dorsey of the Creston Police Department with the Exceptional Duty Award.
Hale presented the award based on Dorsey’s exemplary performance and sustained dedication while investigating a recent case involving multiple burglaries in Creston and Union County.
Over the course of several months, multiple agencies across the region experienced a series of significant burglaries involving stolen vehicles, trailers, tools and other property of high value. The total loss amounted to tens of thousands of dollars and affected residents, businesses and partner jurisdictions alike. After initial reports were taken, these cases were turned over to Dorsey, who has assumed the role of primary investigator for the police department and the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Dorsey “devoted approximately 50 hours of investigative work to the cases,” Hale said, and “demonstrated exceptional persistence, technical ability and investigative skill.” Hale shared with the council that Dorsey was responsible for the writing of multiple search warrants, requiring coordinating efforts across multiple agencies and applying a wide range of investigative techniques to track leads, identify suspects and connect evidence across several complex incidents.
As a result of Dorsey’s commitment and expertise, Hale said five active burglary cases were solved and closed, and two suspects, who were identified as responsible for the crime spree, were arrested and charged. More than $37,000 in stolen tools were positively identified and returned to victims that would have otherwise been lost.
According to Hale, Dorsey’s performance reflected the highest standards of professionalism, diligence and service, and strengthened the integrity of the cases and enhanced the reputation of the Creston Police Department and its partnership with surrounding agencies.
Dorsey was presented the Exceptional Duty Medal by Hale on behalf of the Creston Police Department and the citizens they serve for his work in recognition for his efforts.
