A pedestrian from Winterset was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident in Winterset late Saturday night.
According to an Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 10:52 p.m. a 2014 Ford F250 driven by Jase Pettit, 18, of Afton, was entering Winterset in the southbound lane of Highway 169.
As Pettit crossed the intersection at East Madison Street, Logan Smith, 23, of Winterset, came onto the roadway out of the east ditch, crossed the northbound lane of traffic and ran into the side of the F250. Pettit came to a stop as soon as possible.
Smith’s body was transported by a funeral home to the state medical examiner in Ankeny.
