Three file for mayoral candidacy

After Creston residents turned in a petition with double the required signatures to force a special election in the mayoral vacancy, three candidates have filed paperwork to run for the position.

Chris Reindl, Josh Thompson and Douglas Daggett each submitted a nomination petition with at least 25 signatures to the Creston City Clerk last week.

Reindl has been in public service for more than 15 years, including as neighborhood inspection supervisor for the city of Des Moines.

Thompson has been serving on the Creston City Council since 2022. He is employed at Vanmark Equipment as a senior project manager.

Daggett owns Douglas D. Daggett, P.C., a general practice law firm in Creston.

The special election will be held Dec. 9 with this as the only item on the ballot. Though these three names will be the only ones listed, a social media campaign has begun for a write-in candidate.

The “Pokorny for Mayor” team took to Facebook, asking voters to write in JP Pokorny, owner of Pokorny BP & Automobile Service in Creston, on election day, saying the team “regrets to inform you that we missed the deadline to submit paperwork to be on the official ballot.”

The Creston News Advertiser, Creston Chamber of Commerce and KSIB Radio will host a candidate forum prior to the election, more details to come.
