To cover costs of urban renewal projects which took place between 2021 through 2025, funds were moved.
Three resolutions were presented during Wednesday’s Union County board of supervisors meeting, two of which required a public hearing. With no comment during either of these hearings, all three resolutions were approved.
The first of these resolutions covers the cost of urban renewal projects. From the county’s general fund, $64,399 will be moved as an advance. This amount will be repaid to the general fund through future incremental property tax revenues.
Another resolution amended the county budget by assigning previously unassigned funds. These include additions to physical health and social services from opioid fund expenses, city well plugging expenses/revenue, digitization of roads books, expenses for TIF bond and equipment to be moved and replaced during the painting of a county radio tower.
The final resolution kicked off official revision of Union County ordinances. Ordinances 10-21 were updated in this first round of revisions. Additional ordinances will be updated following additional public hearings.
The updates for 10-21 concerned updates to Iowa Code section numbers on ordinance 10, which covers passage procedure. The rest of the ordinances in the section received no updates. Union County Supervisors chose to waive additional readings following a lack of public comment.

Union County Auditor Sandy Hysell presented a few reports to the board, including the fiscal year 2024/25 GAAP Report, Co-op urban renewal report and wind turbine urban renewal report.
Both urban renewal reports are routine as a yearly report to the county, with no issues noted for this year. The GAAP report is always presented in the case the county is unable to cover expenses which were approved in the previous fiscal year but paid in the next. No issues were noted.
Supervisor Dennis Brown was absent from Wednesday’s meeting.
