Larry McKinney, 84, of Kent, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines. Per Larry’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. Powers Funeral Home in Creston is in charge of arrangements.

Larry Gale McKinney was born Dec. 25, 1940, to Gale Winfield McKinney and Mary E. (Chaney) McKinney in Macksburg. He grew up in the Zion area and graduated from Zion High School in 1958.
Larry worked in telephone construction for many years. On July 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to E. “Jean” McDanolds. They settled in the Creston area where he worked in construction. They were later divorced.
Larry worked as a farmhand raising hogs and raised mink with his brother. He also worked for Doug Davidson at the bowling alley as a bartender among other duties and later owned and operated Two Rivers Pool Supply for several years, until he retired in 2019. Larry was an avid bowler and sponsored several teams through the years while he owned and operated his business.
Larry is survived by his sons, Jeff McKinney of Kent and Scott (Jeanna) McKinney of Afton; his siblings: Gary (Marcia) McKinney of McKinney, Texas, Dan (Sharon) McKinney of Orient and Gale W. (Audra) McKinney II of Fort Dodge; two grandchildren, Jessica McKinney of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mackenzie McKinney (Kevin Workman) of Des Moines and great-granddaughter Athena Workman.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Mary McKinney; his brother Patrick E. McKinney and grandson Ivan James.
