Work continues on water mains

Construction began last week at the intersection of Mills and Cherry for Creston Waterworks' water main improvement project.

A quiet Creston Waterworks meeting continued approving payments for the water main improvement project while also beginning the first round of payments for their lead service line replacement project.

The Creston Waterworks Board of Trustees met last Tuesday to discuss ongoing projects. The waterworks had released an updated construction schedule for their water main improvement project which describes extended construction periods along North Cherry and East Mills streets.

Those projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. An updated schedule for work on Montgomery Street was also given, which will move west throughout the rest of the year and a scheduled end in January 2026.

Pay applications totaling to about $318,000 were approved for two contractors working on the waterworks’ water main improvement project.

Three lead service lines were replaced in Uptown Creston by United Utilities, with the board approving payment for $12,203.70. For another part of the lead service line replacement, the waterworks will pay C&J Conservation $2,289.

The board also approved the closing of a CD account for reinvestment. This will be overseen by Waterworks General Manager Steve Guthrie. The amount to be reinvested is about $200,000. Guthrie estimates a rate of 4-4.3% can be found.
