Correction: Finding Creston’s next mayor

In the article “Finding Creston’s next mayor,” it was incorrectly stated a person must be a mayoral candidate to file a special election petition and they must have 25 signatures.

Any qualifying Creston resident can file a petition for a special election, but they must have 182 signatures, approximately 15% of the votes cast in the last mayoral election.

If a special election were to occur, it is estimated to cost the city between $2,000 and $4,000. A special election may be held on any Tuesday except for the four Tuesdays before and after the primary and general elections and cannot coincide with the previously scheduled local Nov. 4 election.
