Two new furnished cabin spaces on the Union County Conservation campgrounds, called Mallard and Pintail cabins, are now available for rental.
Final furnishings for the new cabins in the Three Mile Recreational Area were discussed during last Tuesday’s conservation board meeting. Even during the offseason, the two cabins are now available for rental for those looking to have a vacation or hunting retreat near Three Mile Lake.
Each cabin can reside 10 overnight in queen, twin and bunk beds across two bedrooms and a loft. A stocked kitchen and grill are included in each cabin. Eventually, conservation hopes to add boat docks to both cabins, although the 6-feet low level of the lake at present has delayed the installation.
During the summer months of May through August, a reservation of seven full days from check-in Friday through check-out on the following Friday is required. This fee will cost $1,680 per week.
For the offseason, a weekend rate of $520 (Friday and Saturday) and a weekday rate of $220 (minimum of two-night stay) is offered.
A $200 damage/cleaning deposit is required for rental. Vacationers will make their own beds using provided sheets which will make it easier for cleaning between visitors.
Additional grass seeding and signs for rules and the name of each cabin will be installed over time.

Union County Supervisor Dennis Brown asked Union County Conservation if they’d be willing to support a project involving installing a 60-feet flagpole for a 20-feet flag. The conservation board debated where this project could be installed without using state-mandated wild land. No decision was made during last week’s meeting.
Every 25 years, Union County Conservation renews an agreement to manage camping areas around Thayer Lake. Conservation read the draft of the agreement last week and will approve the agreement at a future meeting.
