Union County Attorney Tim Kenyon asked the supervisors for their blessing to create a video clerk position on his staff Tuesday during the regular weekly Union County Board of Supervisors meeting at the Union County Courthouse.
Creston/O-M football lost to Winterset 41-14 Friday night, falling to 1-1 on the season. The Panthers and Huskies traded drives, with neither side budging until 5:38 was on the clock in the first quarter.
After Fridley Theatres moved out of The Strand theater building this week, the marquee above its doors remains blank. Jennifer Baucom, who anticipated taking over the movie theater operations as early as Aug. 31, took to Facebook Thursday to express her disappointment and to explain why she wasn’t going to be able to reopen the theatre.
From the splash pad to the new Wi-Fi Center, the city of Afton continues to grow. The tobacco mural, which was once a stunning addition to the town in the early 1900s, had almost completely faded away. But now, with a little teamwork from the Afton Community Club and a little elbow grease from East Union Art Teacher Sherresse Buzard and the East Union Art Club, the mural has been restored.

A new course at the Greene County Invite didn’t faze Creston senior Cooper McDermott here Thursday. McDermott bounced back from Tuesday’s loss to Class 1A third-ranked Shane Breheny of Nodaway Valley by winning the Class AA race in the drizzle at Spring Lake Park northeast of Jefferson.
Creston High School will celebrate Homecoming 2015 Sunday, Sept. 20 through Saturday, Sept. 26. This year’s theme is “When You Wish Upon a Homecoming: 2015 CHS Disney Homecoming.”
Orient-Macksburg had a successful start and the attitude on the floor reflected that, sparking the Bulldogs to a 25-10, 25-21, 25-22 sweep of Diagonal in Orient Thursday for the team’s first win of the season. Orient-Macksburg improved to 1-3 for the season, while Diagonal dropped to 1-3.

For the second week in a row, Norwalk scored in the final seconds to rally for a victory. Friday night at Panther Field, moments after Creston/O-M senior Austin Bolinger had tied the game at 23-23 with a 36-yard field goal, Norwalk fullback Shay Huffman scored a 13-yard touchdown with 13 seconds remaining to lift the Warriors to a 30-23 victory.
The Creston/O-M Panthers opened Class 3A District 1 play with a 33-0 defeat at Lewis Central Friday.
Creston’s Emily Wignall wrapped up a solid week of running, with a third-place finish at the Jefferson-Scranton Meet Thursday. Wignall, who won the sophomore race at Winterset two days earlier, finished with a time of 16:25 at Jefferson. The Creston standout, ranked 20th in Class 3A, finished one second behind 3A 25th-ranked Erin Sawyers of Winterset.
This is a good year to talk about floodwater damage control in Ringgold County. County officials estimate $2 million in flood damage to land, roads and bridges during the spring and summer of 2010. Supervisor Kurt Shaha said at least a half-dozen bridges were closed on flood-damaged county roads.

Greater Community Hospital has acquired Creston Radiation, Inc. as part of the development of Greater Regional Cancer Center, according to a statement from Greater Community Hospital. The acquisition was official Sept. 1, after months of negotiations. Purchase price was undisclosed.
The Creston volleyball team’s tenacity was on full display in Tuesday’s loss to the Denison-Schleswig. Down by two games, the Panthers scrapped and clawed their way back into the match with the Hawkeye 10 foe. Creston forced a fifth game, but lost the match-deciding game, 16-14.
For the past 28 years Winterset has been dominated by the Creston/O-M football team. For the Winterset football team, nothing has been more grim than the reality of its series with the Creston/O-M football team. The Panthers have owned the series -- winning 27 of the last 28 meetings. Now, the Huskies have a legitimate shot at ending the years of frustration. After falling to Creston last season, Winterset went on to qualify for the playoffs. The results weren’t so rosy for Creston.
