Candidates sought for city council, school board positions

Candidates for city council and school board positions are encouraged to fill out their petitions soon, with all due by 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 18 to their respective city hall or school district secretary. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Terms expiring for the city of Creston this year include council members Jocelyn Blazek, Ward 1; Jen Worisek, Ward 3; Steve Wintermute, Ward 5 and Rich Madison, at-large. All seats are four-year terms.

For Creston Community School Board, members Galen Zumbach, Amanda Mohr and Sharon Snodgrass have terms expiring. Those are also four-year terms.

East Union School Board members with expiring terms are Adam Tallmon and Jamie Buffington. Both are four-year terms.

The Southwestern Community College board has four members running for re-election: Jane Ernst, District 1; Susan Stearns, District 3; Kevin Britten, District 5; Zach Gunsolley, District 6.

City council candidates must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Iowa and the United States. For Creston, candidates must be resident of the district they are running, with exception for mayor and the at-large seat. At least 25 signatures from eligible voters from the appropriate ward are required for the petition, though more are suggested in case of invalid signatures.

School board candidates must also be at least 18 and a resident of the school district.

Afton City Council: Mayor Michelle Burger, two-year term; council members Jeff Burger and Kristie Nixon, four-year terms.

Arispe: Council members Tom Hansen, Mike Rollings and Kathy Groves, all four-year terms.

Cromwell: Mayor Curt Angell; Amy Angell, Judy Hopkins, Robert Hepp, Jacob McGehee, Anthony Hoadley. All are two-year terms.

Lorimor: Mayor Tim O’Neil; council members Mathew Lee Lenhart, Karen Tucker and Jody King. All are four-year terms.

Shannon City: Mayor Terry Gilbet; council members Clay Arnold, Glen Hoyt and Wes Gilbert, all four-year terms.

Thayer: Mayor Corey Mitchell; council members Deana Welcher, Lacey Catalano, Les Vanderplum, Bridget Hoskey and Karen Mitchell. All are two-year terms.
