A construction project for revitalizing a sewer system has begun on Montgomery Street.
The Central Sanitary Sewer Rehab Project was approved by the Creston City Council in November 2024. The project was funded through leftover COVID relief funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.
About 325 feet of 12-inch sanitary sewer pipes will be installed between Division Street and Oak Street along Montgomery. Additional construction will take place on Adams Street between Sumner Avenue and Spruce Street, Division Street between Townline Street and Seneca Street and Seneca Street west of Division.
In total, the project will include 709 feet of 12-inch sanitary sewer line, about 1,600 feet of 8-inch, additional lining for 244 feet of 6-inch sanitary sewer, two point repairs and establishing connections with the rest of the sewer system.
City Administrator Mike Taylor said in October 2024 when preparing for the project each street would not take more than a month of construction. At the time, $300,000 was left over from ARPA funds.
The West Des Moines company Veenstra & Kimm took over engineering for the project, selecting KLC Construction from Corydon as the winning bid of $271,491.50.
Travel is possible around the area of construction for now, but be careful where the street squeezes into one lane.
