‘Fitness for yourself’

Staff of Champion Fitness and members of the Creston Chamber of Commerce join together for the ribbon-cutting of the new business.

A new fitness gym, Champion Fitness, has arrived in Creston, offering a wealth of coach-led classes to help champion the benefits of safe, clean workouts. The business is owned by Jamie Travis and is located at 1407 US Highway 34 in Creston. Their slogan is simple: “Fitness for Yourself.”

The location is attached to Champion Steaks, with the building where the gym is housed being an unused section of the original business. This section of the building was given to Travis by Chad Rieck, the owner of Champion Steaks, as they were good friends.

Renovating this building began at the first of the year on Jan. 1, and is still continuing. Travis emphasized the importance of the physical space can be.

“That was one of the most important things,” he said. “We wanted a clean, nice spot to work out.”

One of Champion Fitness’ features is daily workout classes, led by a different coach every day. These classes can start as early in the morning as 5:15 a.m. More information relating to the schedule can be found on the Champion Fitness Facebook page.

The coaches that lead these classes were given considerable praise by Travis.

“We’re thankful for all of our coaches,” he said. “Our coaches are well-trained. They know how to instruct people to get better at every movement and show them ways to scale down movements so they can get a good workout and feel they accomplished their workout without getting hurt.”

One notable class is led by Travis’ wife Megan Travis called “Fit Light.” Those classes are less intense versions of the workout classes that help promote a more fit life. These are at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Programs are set up by three scaling workout difficulties. These are, from highest difficulty to lowest, freedom, independence and liberty. Each of these programs are meant to show individuals their improvements, promoting the idea that workouts are competitions against oneself.

Prices for a base subscription is $99 a month, which allows for unlimited visits during the month. A punch card is also available for $100, which gives you 10 classes to punch after each visit.

Champion Fitness is located at 1407 US Highway 34. Details about class schedules can be found at their Facebook page.
