Greater Regional to create its own cancer care services

Greater Regional Health is preparing to provide its own oncology services after working relationships with providers in Des Moines have ended the agreements with Greater Regional.

During Greater Regional’s board meeting Monday, CEO Monte Neitzel explained how administration had then decided and found staff to continue to provide oncology services in Creston.

“I feel bad for our patients. Our staff has been relentless as we look for quality, access and choice,” Neitzel said.

He said Dr. Mathew Wehbe and oncology nurse Brooke Wehbe have begun the employment process with Greater Regional. It is possible the two will begin work in December.

“Greater Regional will have its own full-time oncology team,” Neitzel said.

Mathew’s 14 plus years working with cancer includes the University of Texas-San Antonio and the University of Iowa. Brooke has been with oncology and health-care services for 16 years.

“We are extremely pleased and excited they are offering their services,” he said. “We have made significant investments to maintain and enhance our cancer care.”

Greater Regional board member Ken Stults said Greater Regional patients being treated for oncology have been notified of the change.

Neitzel said additional staff for oncology care in Creston is being researched.
