New CNA timeline shifts procedures, schedules

Beginning Monday, Sept. 11, much of the Creston News Advertiser will change. Print editions will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tuesdays and Thursdays will only be eNewspapers at crestonnews.com. Papers from Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will also have an eNewspaper.

Each days’ eNewspaper will be available at 6 a.m. The print versions will be delivered by mail. Subscribers in Creston, Cromwell and Orient ZIP codes are expected to receive the paper the same day.

The new schedule and distribution will change the schedule of work and content for the Creston News Advertiser newsroom.

This could alter when families would prefer to run obituaries in order to have a paper copy. It will mean however, obituaries published online in the eNewspaper will feature color photos. They are in color on the website but not in the paper version.

With this comes changes to deadlines. We have been able to get last-minute obituaries, death notices and edits in as space allows, sometimes within the same hour of print time. Unfortunately, we will not be able to have that flexibility.

The new deadlines for our pages to be finished is late in the evening the day before the publication. For obituaries, the deadline will be moved to 4 p.m. the day prior. For example, for Monday’s paper this means a 4 p.m. Friday deadline. This will ensure we have time and potential space to format each obituary and photograph without issue.

Because of having a late print time and deadlines, our availability in office in the mornings will not be consistent. We will have access to email where obituaries are sent (news@crestonnews.com). It’s likely someone will be in the newsroom at 11 a.m.

The people page will also be moved from Tuesdays to Wednesdays because of its traditional content. We have heard too many stories of the pictures of anniversary couples and birthday people saved for scrapbooks and refrigerator doors. The farm and business page, which has been on Wednesdays, will move to Tuesdays.

We also ask our government entities to continue to send us meeting agendas. Because of our new schedule, we politely ask to send us the agenda, if possible, a day earlier to continue the same timing. For example, if Creston City Council meets on a Tuesday, we will need the agenda Friday so it will be included in Monday’s paper. For a Monday meeting, we will need the agenda on Thursday to be ready for Friday’s paper.

We run the agendas to inform our readers. We are thankful for the government bodies which provide us their agendas.

As for legal publications, we continue a two-day advance notice. All legals will only be in print versions of the paper. For example, if a legal is desired to be in a Friday paper, we need the information on Wednesday. If a legal is wanted in a Monday, we need it the Thursday prior.

Copies of our popular crossword puzzle and Sudoku will be printed from Tuesdays and Thursdays editions and available at the Creston News Advertiser to pick up.
