“Poetry Speaks, Who I am: 100 poems of Discovery, Inspiration, Independence and Everything Else”, edited by Elise Paschen, includes a CD to hear the poems read by their authors. Only problem—readers might have a problem finding a CD player, as it is kind of old technology. (The Library probably has one). The great variety of subject matter, from baseball to anger, will appeal to young people grades 6 – 10.

“Alone” by Megan L. Freeman is a tense survival story, in verse, that young adults will like, and it will remind readers of Gary Paulsen’s “Hatchet.”

For those readers who can’t wait for the next Western here is the seventh adventure featuring gunslinger Perley Gates: “The Lonesome Gun”, a Perley Gates Western by William W. Johnstone and J A Johnstone. Western fans have enjoyed this series.

“Ladies of the Lake” by Cathy Gohlke is a new historical novel about four girls from Lakeside Ladies Academy who sign a pact to always be true friends calling themselves Ladies of the Lake. Twenty-five years later, during the Great Depression they all now have lived life, have some battle scars, and this novel ties them to the events of history that effect ordinary families.

For kids and parents, “Mindful Mr. Sloth” by Katy Hudson is a humorous friendship story and a modern take that reminds us we live in a fast-paced world, but not everyone goes at the same speed. We sometimes need to stop, slow down and smell the flowers. The illustrations in this picture book are delightful.

See you at The Fontanelle Public Library.
