KMA Radio reported today Collin Bevins, a 2012 Creston High School graduate and Clarinda High head football coach, was terminated from his position Wednesday by the Clarinda School Board.
The action stems from Bevins, 29, of Clarinda, taken into custody July 30 in Guthrie Center during a country music festival and charged with public intoxication, possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to Guthrie County reports, at approximately 1:15 a.m. three uniformed security officers at River Ruckus were seen by Guthrie County deputies attempting to escort a male, later identified as Bevins, toward the exit gate of the festival. The security officers repeatedly told Bevins he had to leave after he had attempted to fight other festival attendees, but Bevins reportedly resisted their attempts to physically move him toward the exit and argued with them.
After speaking with the security officers and observing Bevins to be unsteady on his feet, seeming disoriented and having the odor of alcohol coming from his person, Guthrie County deputies placed Bevins under arrest for public intoxication. A post-arrest search of Bevins resulted in the discovery of a THC Vape pen in his pocket.
Clarinda hired Bevins in 2019. Superintendent Jeff Privia said assistants Roger Williams and Conner Hanafan will serve as co-head coaches for the upcoming season. The head coaching position will be advertised next spring.
