Union County Assessor, Mindy Schaefer, announces door-to-door inspections of all residential properties in Union County which began July 2022 went very well and have finished and she thanks Union County citizens for their cooperation.
The data collectors made two attempts to reach property owners at home. However, if they were unable to connect with you and you would like to provide the information about your property, please go to www.survey.camavision.com and complete the survey about your property.
The next phase of the project involves a review of all the data collected. This is done to help ensure accuracy. Vanguard reviewers will be traveling the city streets and then expand to the townships, stopping and reviewing properties from the road when needed. The Union County Assessor’s Office continues to appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this process. Reviewers will continue to review properties through the end of 2023.
In early spring of 2024, property owners will receive assessment notices resulting from the county-wide residential revaluation. Property values are required by Iowa Code 441.21 to be at market value. After the notices are mailed, property owners will have an opportunity to meet informally to discuss their assessment if they do not agree the value is set at market value. Additional information will be provided on this process later.
The purpose of a reappraisal is to establish fair and equitable assessments representing the market value of each specific parcel. This is done through the collection of data for each specific parcel, sales analysis of the entire county and a study of local construction costs and economic conditions for our local jurisdiction. It is not to increase the assessed value of properties or the property taxes owners pay.
