Fall Festivities

With the start of October comes a variety of activities and events in the Creston/Union County area. Here are a few we know about happening this weekend you can check out.

Afton Autumn Days

The weekend starts tonight at 6 p.m. with a kids movie night at First National Bank. “Encanto” will be shown. At 7:30 p.m. head to the Afton Square to hear local artist, Dustin Baird. If you want to get spooked, First National Bank will be hosting the showing of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” at 8:30 p.m.

The events are in abundance Saturday in Afton. Runners and early risers can sign up for the Autumn Days 5K beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. Join the Afton Volunteer Fireman for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. A vendor fair will be ongoing throughout the day from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Judging will start for the entries in the Autumn Days BBQ contest at 11 a.m.

Activities for the kids include pumpkin painting from noon-3 p.m., a pedal pull at 1 p.m., Afton Lions Club will have a bounce house set up from 1-4 p.m. and the kid’s costume parade at 3 p.m will make it’s way through the car show being held from 1-4 p.m. If you’re up for some fun, friendly competition there’s a pie eating contest at 4:30 (sign up by 4 p.m) and a bag’s tournament at 5 p.m. (sign up by 4:45 p.m.) Sign up for both will be done at the splash pad. Food trucks will be set up from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The evening ends at Lakeshore Golf and County Club with live music starting at 6 p.m. with Kyle Jorgenson who will play until 7:30 p.m. At 8 p.m. Garrett & the Relics take over the entertainment until 10 p.m. A fireworks show presented by Top Notch Fireworks LLC will be shot off from the golf and country club.

At 9:30 a.m. Sunday Jamie Travis will hold cowboy church in the park.

Green Valley Trick-or-Treat

The campgrounds have been decorated and the treats have been bought. From 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, a trick-or-treat event at Green Valley State Park campground will be held. The roads will be blocked and closed for the safety of those attending the annual trick-or-treat event.

Oktoberfest at Hot Air Brewing

Hot Air Brewing in Creston will be celebrating October with their second annual Hot Air Oktoberfest. The first beer will be tapped at 1 p.m. Several games of the German game Settlers Catan will be going at once, including the kids version which is less time consuming. They will be serving brats and kraut and holding traditional German indoor and outdoor games.
