Participants pick their people in primary

Tuesday evening’s storm caused power outages in some precincts in Union County when the polls closed at 8 p.m. only causing delays in reporting results. Voting officials said the power outage did not have any impact on voters.

Union County had no contested seats for county offices. Supervisor Ron Riley is not running for re-election. Roger Vicker is the only formal candidate for the seat and is running unaffiliated.

Incumbents for county treasurer Kelly Busch, recorder Katie Carlton and attorney Shane O’Toole were all on the Republican ballot and all were uncontested.

The following are the unofficial results.

Republican:

Senator: Republican; Jim Carlin, 243. Chuck Grassley, 715.

Rep. Dist. 3: Nicole Hasso, 119. Gary Leffler, 128. Zach Nunn, 669.

Governor: Kim Reynolds, 918.

Sec. of State: Paul Pate, 889.

Auditor: Todd Halbur, 461. Mary Ann Hanusa, 384.

Treasurer: Roby Smith, 848.

Sec. of Agriculture: Mike Naig, 874.

Attorney General: Brenna Bird, 849.

State Sen. Dist. 9: Tom Shipley: 761.

State Rep. Dist. 17: Paul Dykstra, 505. Devon Wood, 278.

State Rep. Dist. 23: Ray Sorensen, 119.

Democrat

Senator: Abby Finkenauer, 147. Michael Franken, 257. Glenn Hurst, 13.

Rep. Dist. 3: Cindy Axne, 406.

Governor: Deidre DeJear, 382.

Sec. of State: Joel Miller, 281. Eric Van Lancker, 80.

Auditor: Rob Sand, 396.

Union County had a 17% voter turnout.

In Adair County Supervisor District 2NE had a contested race on the Republican ballot between incumbents Joadie Hoadley and Steven Shelley Hoadley holds the seat now is District 4SE. Joadie Hoadley had 136 and Steven Shelley finished with 82.

County Supervisor District 4SE also had a contested race on the republican ballot between Nathan Baier and Nick Carson. Nathan Baier had 97 votes and Nick Carson had 47.

In Adams County

In District 2, Jerry Peckham and Tony Hardisty were both Republican candidates to fill a vacancy. Jerry Peckham totaled 50 and Tony Hardisty 53.

To fill a vacancy in district 5, Republican candidates Karl McCarty and Christopher Standley ran against each other. Karl McCarty finished with 39 and Christopher Standley had 79.

No candidate, republican or democrat, ran for the county attorney held by Andrew Knuth.

In Madison County Treasurer Jana Corkrean did not run for re-election. Amanda DeVos, who is the second deputy Treasurer was up against Brian Fitch on the Republican ballot. DeVos had 763 and Brian Fitch had 674.

For Supervisor District 1 incumbent Heather Stancil ran against Bryan Arzani on the Republican ballot. Stancil had 410 and Bryan Arzani had 301.

Clarke County Recorder Selena Humphrey will facwe incumbent Peggy Cummings in the general election. In the primary, Humphrey was on the Republican ballot and Cummings on the Democratic ballot.

For Supervisor District 2, Randy Dunbar and Richard Thomas were on the Republican ballot while Marvin McCann ran as a democrat. Dunbar had 393 and Thomas had 315.

In Taylor County, Supervisor District 2 has three new candidates running as republicans-Jodi Still, Mike Irvin and Kim Watson. Still finished with 29; Irvin, 102 and Kim Watson, 154.

No one filed for Supervisor for district 3, currently held by Pamela Wilmarth.

In Ringgold County for county supervisor, three candidates were on the Republican ballot: Marla Crawford, 163; Rodney Shields, 161 and Randy Taylor 438.

In district 17 for state representative, Paul Dyskstra and Devon Wood faced off from the Republican party. Dyskstra had 1,700 to Wood’s 1,790.

The winners from the Republican and Democratic parties will be on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.
