Tanner named elementary principal

Creston names Casey Tanner its new elementary school principal in a press release sent out Wednesday morning.

Tanner has been with the school district for eight years. Formally from Orient, he started in 2014 in middle school math. He spent the last two years as the Dean of Students for first through eighth grade students.

Tanner is involved in other activities at the school as well, serving as the assistant football and wrestling coach and the strength and conditioning coach.

“I am confident he will be a strong advocate for children and staff, and will progressively lead the elementary school and our children forward,” Superintendent Deron Stender said in the release. “Please welcome Mr. Tanner as the new leader at Creston Elementary School.”

There were 11 applicants for the principal position. Tanner was one of the two interviewed for the job.

Tanner will replace Julie Plant who has been principal since 2019 and has found a job outside the school district for next year. He will begin his role on July 1, 2022.

“I am confident he will continue the tradition of excellence expected from our students, staff and schools.” Stender said.
