Two injured when car crashes into house

One Creston man was flown to a Des Moines area hospital and another was transported to Greater Regional after the car they were in crashed into a house at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Ryan Cross, 34, of Creston, was driving south on North Lincoln Street at a high rate of speed and lost control of a Pontiac Grand Prix. The vehicle left the roadway to the left and crashed into a house at 926 Mills St. and came to rest on its top. Cross and passenger Shawn Westbrook, 25, of Litchfield, Illinois, were temporarily trapped in the car until they were extricated by Creston Fire.

Neither Cross nor Westbrook were wearing a seat belt. Cross was airlifted to MercyOne in Des Moines and Westbrook was taken by Union County EMS to Greater Regional. The extent of their injuries remain unknown. Charges are pending as law enforcement continued its investigation. Alcohol may be a factor in the crash.
