In an effort to help families in need of assistance this holiday, area agencies, organizations and ministries have banded together to ensure their holiday is a bit more merry and bright. Tomorrow, Boy Scout Troop will hit the pavement collecting canned goods and non-perishable items for families served through the Creston Food Shelf so they can enjoy their own holiday meal.
The scouts ask that donated items be placed in a visible spot near the front door for pickup by 9 a.m. Saturday.
Additionally, the annual Christmas Basket Fund campaign is now underway. This year’s goal is $12,500. The collection of funds helps supplement the program, which distributes Christmas food baskets and a food certificate for perishable items to be used at Hy-Vee, Fareway and Walmart to more than 100 families in need.
The Christmas Basket Fund is now accepting funds with distribution of baskets to take place Dec. 18 at Creston Food Shelf, 301 N. Elm St. Times will be announced closer to the pickup date.
To make a monetary donation, checks can be made payable to “Christmas Basket Fund” and dropped off at the Creston News Advertiser, 501 W. Adams St. and placed in the mail slot on the front of the building or brought to the reception area. Alternatively, checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 126, Creston, IA 50801. Donations with names and “In memory of” will be published in the CNA each Friday.
The generous donation made to the Christmas Basket campaign also supports several community agencies: Creston Area Food Pantry, MATURA, Food for Live and the Ministerial Alliance.
Thank you for helping support area families in need of assistance this holiday season.
