Southwestern names assistant baseball coach

Southwestern Community College announced Tuesday Blake Peterson will be the college’s next assistant baseball coach headed into the 2021-22 season. Peterson will be on campus in early August to begin his employment and meet with Southwestern employees.

Peterson is a 2016 graduate of Luther College in Decorah, and comes to Southwestern with prior coaching experience at the NJCAA and NCAA levels. As a player, Peterson ranks 12th in career victories on the mound and was named All-Central Region Second Team and All-Conference Second Team during his time at Luther, pitching for the Norse.

Peterson said he plans to hit the ground running.

“First, I’d like to say thank you to Coach [Jordan] Camp, Coach [Doug] North, and AD {Nick] Weinmeister for the opportunity and for being so welcoming. I am truly excited to begin working with Spartan Nation,” says Peterson.

Most recently in coaching, Peterson was an assistant coach at Simpson College with an emphasis on pitchers. He also has experience in recruiting, strength and conditioning, and social media for the baseball team at Central Lakes College.

“I look forward to joining Coach Camp in working to achieve his vision for this program and the challenges that come with it,” stated Peterson. “Coach Camp has made it very easy to buy in and commit to what we are trying to achieve at SWCC. I can’t wait to get on campus and get to work. Go Spartans.”
