Gibson Memorial Library has made more than a few steps up in decorative book references on each step of its stairway. The project was made possible by a grant from the Union County chapter of the South Central Iowa Community Foundation.
Each stair has a spine label with a book title and corresponding artwork. Some of the titles include “1984″, “Charlotte’s Web” and “To Kill a Mockingbird.” The labels were created by Bobby Wintermute of Graphic Displays.
As part of the project, J & A Flooring installed laminate flooring on the stairs and first floor landing. They also put new carpet on the second floor landing.
Library director Aric Bishop said the project cost a total of $2,786.90, with $2,366.90 to J & A Flooring and $420 to Graphic Displays.
