Spring Dessert Theater (April 23)

Mayflower Heritage Christian School are performing “Nic at Night,” which focuses on the story of Nicodemus during its annual dessert theater 7 p.m. April 23. Tickets are $5 and there will be a silent auction.

C.A.R.E. Microchip Clinic (April 24)

Creston Animal Rescue Effort is hosting a microchip clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. April 24, at the Southern Hills Vet Clinic, 1000 E. Taylor St. Please have pet(s) leashed or in a pet carrier. A Rabies vaccine will also be available. For more information call 641-782-2330.

Market on Maple (April 24)

Market on Maple is a pop up shop event featuring a juried selection of vendors and family-friendly activities in 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Uptown Creston. The event will feature live music by Dan Trilk 7 to 9 p.m. on the 100 and 200 blocks of North Maple Street. Vendors will include handcrafted goods and vintage wares. Uptown businesses will have specials and promotions as well. Spotlight School of Dance and Isaac the Clown will be performing during the day. Rain date April 25. Unstoppable: Spotlight School of Dance recital (April 24)

Spotlight is showcasing its students in an outdoor community performance during the UCDA’s “Market on Maple” event in Uptown Creston, 9 a.m. April 24. Students will perform recital choreography on a covered stage while community members are welcome to watch from picnic blankets or lawn chairs in the green space nestled uptown.

Social Justice Book Club (April 26)

Diagonal Community Blood Drive (May 3)

Diagonal Community Schools are hosting a blood drive, 1 to 6 p.m. May 3 at the Diagonal School’s south gym (W. 2nd St.) Scheduled appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, call Danielle Newton at 641-734-5331. Every blood donor receives a health screening which includes being tested for COVID-19 antibodies and for blood type.

Creston Kiwanis Pancake Days (May 4)

Kiwanis Club members now have tickets to sell for the Annual Pancake Fundraiser, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 4 at the United Methodist Church. Carry out is an option. Tickets are $7 if purchased prior to the event or $8 at the door for adults. All-you-can-eat pancakes with sausage and drink. This fundraiser helps the club donate to numerous projects throughout the year. Event details are also listed on the Creston Kiwanis Facebook page.

Union County Drive-thru Community Baby Shower (May 6)

Union County prenatal families and families with young infants are invited to a drive-thru community baby shower for prize drawings and baby resources 4 to 6 p.m. May 6 in the Tech Center parking lot at Southwestern Community College. Register by calling SWCC at 641-782-1441.

14th Annual Iowa Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day (May 7)

The 14th Annual Iowa Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day Ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial located south of the Iowa State Capitol building in Des Moines. Event hosted by Disabled American Veterans, Des Moines Chapter 20, with the support from Central Iowa VA Health Care System. The Ceremony will honor all who served in the Vietnam War Era, and especially those spouses and families who’ve lost ones, whether during their service in Vietnam, or who later died as a result of their service.

Robotics Showcase (May 8)

The Adams and Union County Extension and Outreach offices are hosting a youth robotics showcase from 9 a.m. to noon May 8 at the Prescott Eagles Nest. The public is invited to attend. Spectators will be able to get a close-up look at robots, youth robotics programs as well as ask questions of ISU Extension and Outreach staff and other STEM professionals. Green Valley Night Catfish Tournament (May 8 and 9)

Lake Icaria Catfish Tournament (May 22)

Live music with locally grown vegetables, dairy, beef, baked and handmade goods will be available 4 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays.

VA Mobile Medical Unit (June 18)

Central Iowa VA Virtual Health is offering 2021 onsite visits to provide services to veterans in the Creston area. The VA Mobile Medical Unit will allow veterans to schedule and attend appointments in a secure and private Telehealth connection. The unit will be located at the Alliant Energy parking lot, 208 W. Taylor St. on June 18, August 20, October 15 and December 15. Some of the services available are primary care, respiratory, cardiology, nutrition, occupational therapy and lab draws. Lenox Rodeo (July 22)

The 76th Annual Lenox Iowa Rodeo begins 7:30 p.m. July 22. Featured events during rodeo week include a parade, youth activities, steer riding and mutton bustin’ with a Lenox Stock and Saddle Club riders main event each night. The grounds are located on East Iowa St. in the south east part of Lenox. It is to the north of the high school and across the street from the baseball field. Hinterland Music Festival (Aug. 6 to 8)

Iowa State Fair (Aug. 12 to 22)

The internationally acclaimed Iowa State Fair is the single largest event in the state of Iowa and one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country. Go Fly a Kite (Aug. 24)

Ringgold County Conservation is hosting a free kite flying event 2 to 4 p.m. April 24 at Liberty Lake, just north of Mount Ayr. The first 15 families will receive a free kite to fly and take home. Participants will meet at the Lakeview Shelter House and then spread out along the east hills to fly their kites. A few kites that groups and families can check out and return are also available. Ayr Days 2021 (Aug 28)

Tingley’s 2nd Annual Ice Cream Social (Aug. 29)

Tingley’s 2nd Annual Ice Cream Social judged competition will be 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 29. Free will offerings will be accepted. Lunch will also be available to purchase at the event courtesy of the Cattlemen’s Association and Kids in Touch. A non-judged antique car, bike and tractor show will take place. Ringgold County’s Ranger Kate will be sponsoring an event for kids.
