Donations needed for Kids in Need Book Drive

A new Creston community group, Kids in Need (KIN), is hosting several events through the summer of 2021 to help area children in need get clothing and school supplies. A book drive begins April 12 through May 12, and donations will provide inventory for the following event, the KIN Bookworm Roundup, to be held in May. A clothing drive and more back-to-school events are also being planned for later this summer. For more information call Carla at at 515-306-4073.

Creston Kiwanis Pancake Days tickets

Kiwanis Club members now have tickets to sell for the Annual Pancake Fundraiser, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 4 at the United Methodist Church. Carry out will be an option. The tickets are $7 if purchased before the event, $8 at the door for adults. The menu is all-you-can-eat pancakes with sausage and a drink. This fundraiser helps the club donate to numerous projects throughout the year. Event details are also listed on the Creston Kiwanis Facebook page.

Donations needed for Creston’s flower basket fund

Creston CWC are now accepting donations for hanging flower baskets as part of the Uptown Beautification project. Launched by Creston CWC in 2018, the non-profit, along with community support, makes this happen each year. Help them make this project “grow” by volunteering, or lending support and/or funds. The hanging baskets will be watered daily by a volunteer group this summer — Creston Area Little Stuff. The funds will be kept separate to be used each year for additional pots, hardware, supplies, flowers, etc. Checks can be sent to P.O. Box 210, Creston, IA 50801, or by Venmo at venmo@creston-cwc.

Donations for Lexi’s Puppy Patch

The Crestland Betterment Foundation is accepting donations to establish a dog park in memory of Lexi Rounds. Lexi’s Puppy Patch will be located in McKinley Park. Checks can be made payable to Crestland Betterment Foundation, c/o Matt McCutchan, 1700 Townline Road, Creston, IA 50801, or by Paypal at paypal.me/lexispuppypatch (send by friends and family — no fee).

Creston Area Theatre scholarship

Crest Area Theatre Board of Directors will be awarding a $250 college scholarship to a local graduating applicant who plans to pursue a career in the arts. The application and other details can be found on the CAT web site, crestareatheatre.wordpress.com. The application deadline is April 16.

C.A.R.E. 2022 pet calendar

Creston Animal Rescue Effort is accepting pet photos for its 2022 pet calendar. All pet photos are welcome. All submitted photos will be included in the calendar as space permits. The large monthly feature photo will be reserved for C.A.R.E. adoptees, with 12 winners to be drawn from submissions received. The 12 chosen will have a new photo taken for the calendar by a C.A.R.E. volunteer. Photos must be emailed to: mjones@iowatelecom.net by April 15. Include the pet’s name and whether or not it was adopted from C.A.R.E. Calendars will be available for purchase later this year with all proceeds going to help homeless pets.

Crossroads mental health and addiction groups

Crossroads Behavioral Health Services is now offering community mental health and addiction groups in person or virtually. The groups offer training in different ways to cope with depression, maintain sobriety, handle and identify triggers and overcome trauma and addiction. Creston Bucks

Creston Chamber Bucks are available all year. The program allows recipients to redeem their chamber bucks at more than 200 businesses in the area. Giving a gift of Creston Bucks keeps money local, supporting local businesses.
