Weekly Open House at Deer Ridge (Sunday and Wednesday)
Deer Ridge at Lexington is Southwest Iowa’s newest premier event space located in the rolling hills of Taylor County. The public and those looking to host a wedding or corporate event with hotel suites are welcome to visit the state-of-the-art event venue and adjacent lodge for a free tour and refreshments 2 to 6 p.m. each Sunday and Wednesday in January. This is a “come and go” event located at 2242 Lake Road, Bedford, IA.
‘What’s On Your Nightstand?’ (Thursday)
Every Thursday at 5 p.m., join online via Zoom. This is a casual group to share a love of literature and perhaps find a new book to read. Spartan Winter Youth Softball Camp (Jan. 24)
Sessions will take place at the SWCC gym for grades 2 through 12 and will focus on hitting, defense, pitching and catching offered for various age groups. Camp information and registration available at southwesternspartans.com.

The American Red Cross is beginning to schedule appointments for blood donations in the new year. Upcoming blood drives include:

• Orient-Macksburg High School, 201 School St., Orient, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 20.
• Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 N. Sumner Ave., noon to 6 p.m. Feb. 1.
