Memorial Day plans announced

Area communities are prepping for the annual Memorial Day services, scheduled for Monday, May 25, in Greenfield, Fontanelle and Bridgewater.

Greenfield

Greenfield’s service will be 10 a.m. in the Greenfield Cemetery with an inclement weather location of the Adair County Health and Fitness Center. According to information from Head-Endres American Legion Post 265, the program will include, among other things, dedication of additional flags for the Avenue of Flags and dedication of new white crosses. The roll call will be read and the Memorial Day address will be given by Staff Sergeant Ryan W. Meier.

Help is needed to place white crosses in the sunken garden and flag poles for the Avenue of Flags in Greenfield’s cemetery at 6 p.m. Friday, May 22. Help is needed 6 a.m. Memorial Day to load flags at the fitness center and place them on the poles in the cemetery. Breakfast will be served for workers at 7:25 a.m. that morning at The Gathering Place. Flags and poles will be rmeoved 6 p.m. Memorial Day. White crosses and small flags will be removed 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26.

There are 474 flags in the Avenue of Flags and 718 white crosses on Memorial Day in Greenfield.

Fontanelle

A service will be held 11 a.m. at the Fontanelle Cemetery, with an inclement weather location of the Fontanelle fire station/community building.

Members of Carlson American Legion Post 247 and auxiliary will decorate veterans’ graves as well as the Avenue of Flags, and the public is encouraged to help.

During the ceremony, new flags will be dedicated for the Avenue of Flags in memory of Bruce Westphal and Dennis Johnson. A special Memorial Day address will be given and other usual events will be included.

The flags will be retired from the Avenue of Flags at 4 p.m. Memorial Day and the public is invited to help.

Bridgewater

The William Thompson American Legion Post 703 of Bridgewater will hold a Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m. at the Bridgewater Activity Center on Memorial Day with coffee and rolls in honor of America’s 250th birthday by the auxiliary members at 9 a.m. Nancy Ferber of Greenfield will give the Memorial Day address. All are welcome.

George Strait Tribute Band coming to WCC stage

Dustin West has been performing across the Midwest with his band for the past 15 years. He brings his tribute to the king of country music, George Strait, to the Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6. The band has performed at state and county fairs, festivals, wineries, historic theaters and opera houses. Besides Strait, their other tribute shows are Jimmy Buffet, John Denver and Johnny Cash.

What separates West from other musicians is his energy for storytelling throughout his performances so that you always know the stories behind the music.

Tickets for this 2025-2026 Locals and Legends show are $25 for adults with free admission for students (high school and younger). Order tickets at warrenculturalcenter.com or get them at the door.

Free theater camp June 15-19

Come join “The Great Zoo Escape” !The Warren Cultural Center on the Greenfield Square is hosting a week-long theatre camp June 15-19 from 9:30-1:30 with a performance 6:30 p.m. June 19. This camp is for ages 7 through high school.

It’s another great day at the zoo and the arrival of a new resident has everyone wild with excitement! But when the animals learn their zoo is in trouble, panic ensues. Will the animals join paws, hooves and wings to save their beloved home? Join us for a high-flying adventure about the power of teamwork and being yourself!

Designed for students at all levels of theater experience, campers will audition, rehearseand perform a musical alongside three professional teaching artists…in one week!

Registration is first come, first served and everyone who signs up will have a part. Students must commit to attending all rehearsals and the final performance.

There is no cost for this camp, but campers need to bring a sack lunch and register by June 1. Forms will be also available at Ed and Eva’s store (Wed-Sat) and warrenculturalcenter.com
