Distance wins lead NV last week at Van Meter

VAN METER — The Nodaway Valley track and field squads each brought distance race wins home from a track meet here last Monday, April 20.

The girls were eighth overall with 41.5 points and the boys took sixth, scoring 50.

Senior Izzy Eisbach was champion of the 1,500m run in a time of 5:10.10. Abby Nelson was third in the 800 with a personal record of 2:28.28 and fifth in the high jump in 4-06.

Allie Cornelison was third in the 400m hurdles in a personal record time of 1:13.13. Emma Boswell took third in the high jump, clearing 4-10, and fifth in the long jump, at 15-06.

Cornelison, Kylie Nelson, Abby Nelson and Eisbach were fifth in the distance medley in 4:32.75.

The 4x400 team of both Nelsons, Boswell and Eisbach were seventh in 4:36.20.

Though they didn’t place, the 4x200 team of Ella Boswell, Emma Boswell, Haisley Zoubek and Ava Herrick ran a season best of 2:00.66.

On the boys’ side, Gabe Winkelmann was champion of the 3200 in 10:21.94 and placed third in the 1600 in 4:48.70). Titan Foster was runner-up of the 400m hurdles in a personal record 1:00.23.

The shuttle hurdle turned in a season best, with Brandon Decena, Eli Campbell, Lyrick Schwartz and Austin Walker taking fourth in 1:16.23. The distance medley (Cassius Burnside, Collin Akers, Foster and Winkelmann) were fourth in 3:57.13.

The 4x800 team of Haden Colton, Cael Strode, Josh Nelson and Everett Ehler were sixth in 9:22.16. Colton was sixth in the 400 (56.68), Campbell was sixth in the 400m hurdles (PR 1:04.90).

Seventh place finishers were the 4x400m team (Colton, Thomas Herrick, Campbell and Walker) in 3:58.11 and Burnside in the 200 in (24.33).

The sprint medley relay (Akers, Logan Lantz, Burnside and Foster) was eighth in a season best 1:42.26), Cherubim Mercado was eighth in the 3200 (12:12.35) and Walker was eighth in the 110m hurdles (19.58) and 100m (12.79).

A relay that missed placing but ran a strong time was a season best from the 4x100 team (Lantz, Akers, Decena and Schwartz) that finished in 48.53. Other individuals with personal records were Ehler in the 800 (2:18.62), Lantz in the 200 (26.15) and Josh Nelson in the 1600 (5:27.08).

The Wolverines were scheduled to compete at Martensdale-St. Marys Thursday, but the event was canceled due to severe weather in the area. This week, NV had a meet Tuesday at Madrid and another Thursday at Griswold. The Pride of Iowa Conference Championships is Monday at Southwest Valley.
