WCC to host ‘Cinderella’

The Warren Cultural Center presents Rossini’s “Cinderella,” performed in English by OPERA Iowa, Des Moines Metro Opera’s Educational Touring Troupe, 7 p.m. Saturday, April 11. This production is one of WCC’s “Locals and Legends” series shows.

OPERA Iowa is an education division program of Des Moines Metro Opera, which is located in Indianola, just south of Des Moines. Over the past 39 years, the OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe has performed in 10 states throughout the region and even in Japan and China, spreading the joy of opera to more than 1 million students and adults. Tickets are $25 for adults with free admission for students (high school and younger). Tickets are available at warrenculturalcenter.com or at the door.

How to Build a Sellable Business April 15

Exit Factor, Small Business Development Center and Southwestern Community College are partnering to held an event about “How to Build a Sellable Business” 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 at SWCC’s Creston campus.

This workshop will be hands-on for rural Iowa business owners who feel they’ve worked too hard to walk away with less than they deserve. Jeremy Vos, Exit Factor Des Moines owner and growth specialist grew up in a town of 80 in Iowa and has built and sold four companies. He will walk owners through exactly what it takes to turn a business they’ve built on hard work and hustle into something that holds real value for the future.

Other speakers include Mike Moffit, Carl C.C. Shivvers and Aaron Auberg, all leaders at Exit Factor Des Moines.

Registration, which costs $50, is through a QR code available on the event poser on the Iowa SBDC website, www.iowasbdc.org.

Lions Pickleball April 25

April 25, the Greenfield Lions Club will host a double elimination pickleball tournament at Nodaway Valley High School. It is open to high school students and adults. Two players per team at $10 per team. The event is limited to 25 teams and registration is walk-in only.

Registration begins at noon with the tournament starting at 1 p.m.

NV Archery spaghetti supper

Nodaway Valley archers going to nationals are hosting a spaghetti supper to raise funds that will cover fees for that trip 4-7 p.m. Sunday, April 26 at The Gathering Place.

This event is in conjunction with Lions Club Bingo that begins at 4:30 p.m., a Higher Power Gospel Quartet concert 5-6:30 p.m.

Spaghetti will be served with a choice of marinara or alfredo sauce, garlic cheese bread and a cookie or bar.

Staying in Touch as Landlines Change - Senior Technology Class - 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 16

Telecom companies are in the process of updating copper lines across the country. This lecture will explain why copper lines are being phased out, the benefits of modern technology and what next steps you can expect. Additionally, we will review some alternatives to traditional landlines and share important resources to help you understand where to find additional information and what options may be available to you. Iowa’s Prohibition and Bootlegging Legacy - 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7

Join Iowa historical fiction writer Ann Hanigan Kotz as she takes you through the early 20th century in her program, Iowa’s Prohibition and Bootlegging Legacy at the Greenfield Public Library. Patrons come to understand why Iowa became a whiskey-making state during prohibition, including the how and where of the illegal enterprise. Kotz ends by discussing the current exploits of today’s underground whiskey business.

Ticket sales open for alumni banquet

Past, present and future alumni from the Bridgewater, Fontanelle and Greenfield communities are invited to enjoy a night of dinner, entertainment and catching up at the 2026 Nodaway Valley Alumni Banquet, scheduled for the evening of Saturday, May 2, at Sixteen Oaks in Fontanelle.

The meal will be catered by Lidderdale and music will be provided by Blast From the Past Jukebox.

Registration opens at 4 p.m. with a 5 p.m. social hour, 6:30 p.m. dinner, 7:30 p.m. annual meeting and program and 8 p.m. music and cocktails.
