BEDFORD — Both Nodaway Valley teams finished in the top four within the team races at a Bedford track and field meet last Tuesday to start the outdoor part of their season.

The Wolverines had a combined six first-place finishes on the night. The girls were third out of 11 teams, scoring 66 points, while the boys took fourth out of nine teams with 83 points.

The girls’ distance medley, with Kylie Nelson, Emma Boswell, Abby Nelson and Izzy Eisbach, came away with a win in 4:36.29. Abby Nelson claimed gold in the 800m run (2:35.02) and was third in the high jump, clearing 4-02. Izzy Eisbach won the 1,500 with a time of 5:24.36.

Emma Boswell was runner-up in the high jump (4-08) and long jump (15-01.00). She was fifth in the 200m dash (28.75).

Allie Cornelison took fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:15.23) and was fifth in the 100m dash (14.00). Ella Boswell was sixth in the 100m dash (14.54).

The boys claimed gold in the 4x800m relay (Haden Colton, Everett Ehler, Paul Kading and Luke Kading in 9:10.83. Gabe Winkelmann won the 800 with a personal record of 2:08.21 and the 3200m in 10:35.86.

Second place finishes came from the sprint medley relay (Cassius Burnside, Brandon Decena, Collin Akers and Titan Foster) with a time of 1:45.13, Luke Kading in the 1600 (5:14.14) and Colton in the 400 (PR of 55.74).

Foster was third in the 400m hurdles with a PR of 1:02 and placed fifth in long jump, leaping 18-08.75. Burnside ran to third place in the 100m dash (a PR of 11.24) and was fourth in the long jump at 18-10.50.

Cherubim Mercado was fourth in the 3200 (12:15.33) and 1600 (5:36.79) while the 4x400m relay also took fourth (Akers, Eli Campbell, Josh Nelson and Cael Strode) in 4:06.27. Paul Kading was sixth in the 800 (2:19.10).

Nodaway Valley was set to welcome CAM, Martensdale-St. Marys, Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton, Interstate 35, East Union and West Central Valley to town for its own meet Monday, April 6.
