A sum of six events from Nodaway Valley — three performing and three non-performing — qualified for individual speech all-state, scheduled for Monday, March 30 at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
The three performing events advancing as performing include Caroline Britten in public address for her piece “Failures of Kindness,” Micah Cronk in improvisation and Paul Kading in radio news. Non-performing qualifiers for the Wolverines include Kacie Ford in reviewing with her piece “Pride and Prejudice,” Melanie Kilborn with her expository address piece “The American Tunis Sheep” and Paul Kading in spontaneous speaking.
This news comes out of a state speech contest Nodaway Valley attended last Saturday at Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs.
Receiving straight 1s were Britten in public address, Ford in literary program, Kilborn in expository address and literary program, Kading in spontaneous speaking and radio news announcing, Elaina Stuva in poetry, Micah Cronk in after dinner speaking, Paiton Ward in after dinner speaking, Kayla Stormer in musical theater and Lyrick Schwartz in acting.
With mixed 1s were Erik Jensen in reviewing, Edan Shilling in poetry, Haden Colton in storytelling, Cronk in videocasting, Kenzie Lilly in prose, Michidel Mercado in prose and Dominic Breheny in original oratory.
Receiving mixed 2 ratings were Emily Butler in storytelling, Breheny in radio news announcing and Mya Larson in public address.
Earning straight 2s were Butler in improvisation and Mercado in original oratory.
The speech team’s head coach is Lauren Ernst; assistant coach is Sam Grubisich and volunteer assistant is Brenda Plymesser.
