Nodaway Valley Middle School students performed well earlier this month at a National History Day regional competition and will compete at the state competition April 27.
According to TAG teacher Gena Ward, this year’s theme for National History Day is “Revolution, Reform and Reaction.” NVMS had 31 students in fifth through eighth grade compete. The top three projects in each division and category advanced.
Earning medals and advancing to state were the following projects and individuals:
• “African Americans in Sports” performance by Warren Ehler, Arik Honnold, Asa Honnold, Kalvin Johnson and Remington Huddleson placed first
• “All-American Professional Baseball League” documentary of Blakely Carver and Alanna Engles placed second
• “Qualified But Forbidden: Arrabella Mansfield Changes the Law” group website by Laila Hall, Anna Herrick, Marcella Hubenka, Makinley Jessen and Ellie Zenor placed third
• “Horses to Horsepower: The Tractor Revolution in Charles City, Iowa” individual exhibit by Max Mensing placed first
• “The Bubonic Black Death” youth individual exhibit by David Huff placed first (Tucker Bigelow and Anneva Hutchings also helped but did not want to advance)
