House explosion claims one life

Cause still under investigation

One man is dead following a home explosion Thursday afternoon south of Greenfield.

According to a release from the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, the Fontanelle and Greenfield fire departments, Adair County Ambulance and Adair County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the scene at 2597 Marion Avenue at about 1:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, first responders located the body of a deceased male, identified as John David Christensen, 51, the sole occupant of the residence.

The assistance of the Iowa State Fire Marshal was requested.

The exact cause of the house explosion is undetermined at this time and is currently under investigation.

Christensen was transported to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny for autopsy.

The Adair & Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency assisted with the incident.
