In their second of four January weekend tournaments, the Nodaway Valley wrestling team placed sixth out of 13 scoring teams at the Creston Invitational Saturday.
The Wolverines were one of seven teams to score over 100 team points at the even, finishing with 137.
The tournament featured five state-ranked teams from the latest IHSAA dual team rankings. In Class 2A, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont is ranked third, Mount Vernon is fourth and Algona ninth. In Class 1A, two ranked teams were at the event with seventh-ranked Oakland Riverside and fifth-ranked Nodaway Valley. Algona and EBF tied for the team title with 214 points while Riverside was third with 186.
Three Wolverines reached the finals with two claiming championships: Caleb Christensen won the 190-pound weight class, Ashton Honnnold won the 285-pound weight class and Johsn Nelson was second at 106 pounds.
Two Wolverines were in third place matches with Ty Strode winning to take third at 132 and Thomas Herrick finishing fourth at 120.
Others medaling for Nodaway Valley were Trevyn Colton fifth at 113, Keyin Steeve sixth at 144, Derek Raasch seventh at 165 and Matthew Nelson eighth at 157. Jett Christensen was also at the meet but did not place at 138.
