DES MOINES — Both of Adair County’s legislators began the 2026 legislative session at the Capitol on Monday with a focus on what they describe as commonsense measures aimed at benefiting Iowans.
Adair County is represented by Rep. Ray “Bubba” Sorensen of Greenfield and Sen. Amy Sinclair of Allerton, both Republicans.
“I’m most looking forward to continuing the work of delivering real results for Iowans — especially when it comes to addressing property taxes and protecting rights,” Sorensen said. “My focus is on practical, commonsense solutions that respect Iowans and keep the state on a strong footing for the future.”
Both legislators said property taxes and property rights are top priorities as the session gets underway. Sinclair said Iowans have been asking lawmakers for relief from “constantly increasing property taxes.”
“It’s my sincere hope that we deliver that needed relief and predictability,” she said.
Sorensen said the potential expansion of CO2 pipelines has raised concerns about property rights. He added that Republicans want to ensure landowners’ rights are respected, the process is transparent and the government does not overstep when it comes to private property.
While Sorensen listed budgeting as his third priority this session, along with property rights and property taxes, Sinclair said she sees the state budget as potentially the biggest challenge facing lawmakers.
“Due to changes made federally through the Big Beautiful Bill and the soft commodity markets we are currently experiencing, Iowa’s budget will be very tight this year,” Sinclair said. “Ensuring that priorities are funded and the budget stays on track will certainly be the biggest challenge we face this session.”
Sorensen said he wants constituents to know he is listening.
“Whether it’s concerns about property taxes, land rights or government transparency, those voices matter,” he said. “My goal is to approach each issue with fairness, respect and a focus on what’s best for Iowa families and communities.”
Sorensen serves as chair of the Economic Growth and Technology Committee and is a member of the Appropriations Committee, including the Federal and Other Funds subcommittee, and the Veterans Affairs Committee.
In addition to serving as Senate president, Sinclair is vice chair of the Rules and Administration Committee and serves on the Education Committee.
