During a special Greenfield city council meeting last Thursday night, Hunter Fry was appointed interim chief of the Greenfield Police Department after Jeff LaBarge’s retirement.
Fry, a Creston native, joined the police force here in August of 2021. Later, he was promoted to sergeant.
“I always wanted to be in law enforcement. In high school I started taking college classes and doing ride alongs for criminal justice,” Fry said. “From there, I started applying and got hired in Greenfield.”
The now-interim chief said he’s been able to blossom as an officer during his time in Greenfield and hopes to continue that journey in his new role.
“It’s been a good experience. It’s a very tight-knit community. The people in the community back you a lot, which is great for a police department nowadays,” Fry said. “You don’t expect to get into some things in a small town, but it’s been a good experience and has kept me busy.”
Fry and his wife, MaKenna, live in Greenfield with their young son, Liam.
Fry’s appointment was one of two pieces of business on the agenda — the other was the council received the final report of an HRDP grant, presented by Greenfield Chamber Main Street.
