Firemates taking Letters to Santa
The Greenfield Firemates are Santa’s helpers this year!
Have your children write a letter to Santa and be sure to include their name and address on the back. Drop the letter off at any of their five drop-off locations (Sunshine Daycare, Nodaway Valley Elementary School, B-F PreKindergarten and Little Lambs, Fontanelle and Greenfield libraries) by Dec. 12.
Santa can’t wait to hear from area children!
Christmas in Greenfield this Saturday
Christmas festivities continue Saturday, Dec. 6, centered around the Warren Cultural Center, with events hosted by the Greenfield Business Women and Adair County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
The Greenfield Business Women will have their Chocolate Affair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Buy a variety of delectable chocolates by the pound.
The hospital auxiliary group will have the annual Tour of Trees and Holiday Luncheon. Tickets are $25 for the luncheon, available from Carol Woosley (641-745-7197) or Jackie Morris (641-743-7262 or jmorris@achsiowa.org). Enjoy a festive luncheon catered by the ACHS dietary staff with live entertainment and viewing of more than 30 decorated trees and tables. Tickets are $10 for tree viewing only (10-11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.)
Back this year is a tour of homes event featuring three residents who have rebuilt after the 2024 tornado. Tickets for the home tour are $10.
Proceeds of the holiday luncheon, tour of trees and tour of homes directly support Adair County Health System’s mission of care.
Santa, Soup Supper in Orient this Saturday
Santa Claus will visit the Orient fire station 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.
A community soup supper will be held 4-7 p.m. with a community drawing for prizes at approximately 4 p.m.
Fontanelle hosts Christmas events next Saturday
Come Saturday, Dec. 13 to Fontanelle for the annual pancake lunch, B-F PreKindergarten Bake Sale and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fontanelle Fire Station.
‘The Little Town of Christmas’ features local actors at WCC
Plan to get into the Christmas spirit with the Cumberland Rose Players as they present “The Little Town of Christmas” Dec. 12-14 at the Warren Cultural Center, 154 Public Square in Greenfield. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7 p.m. with the Sunday show starting at 2 p.m.
“The Little Town of Christmas” consists of about a dozen yuletide sketches. Included are old favorites such as “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and “A Christmas Carol,” alongside interviews with elves and reindeer. There is even an interview with Mrs. Santa Claus, the real boss of the outfit.
Actors in this Cumberland Rose Players production, under the direction of co-directors Amanda Cannon and Trent Buckner, range in age from elementary to adult.
Tickets, $15 for adults and free for students high school age and younger, are available at the door only, with cash or check made out to the Cumberland Rose Players. There are no reserved seats, so make sure you arrive early.

Orient Library Candy Sale this Saturday
Mark your calendars for the annual candy sale sponsored by the Friends of the Orient Community Library. This year’s candy sale will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Orient Community Library. Please note the new location. Entrance to the library is on the east side of the Orient-Macksburg Community School.
Delicious homemade candy made by local cooks will be offered which includes caramels, fudge, peanut brittle, peanut clusters, peanut butter balls, popcorn balls, divinity, chocolate almonds and much more — perfect for holiday gifts, stocking stuffers or just simply to enjoy.
There will be mixed boxes with an assortment of candies along with boxes with single kinds of candy. All candy has been boxed in advance in half-pound and one-pound boxes for you to purchase; however, some of the candy will not be available in both sizes.
All proceeds support library programs, events and resources that benefit the entire community.
