Nodaway Valley has seven on all-district squads

Wolverines look back with much to celebrate and build upon

Nodaway Valley’s football team found out last week that seven of their own players from the recently-completed season were named to Class A, District 7’s all-district teams. Picked this season were Caleb Christensen, Keyin Steeve, Ashton Honnold, Derek Raasch, Titan Foster, Remington Woosley and Parker Schneider.

The Wolverines played eight games, winning one. The win was a big one as it stopped a lengthy, multi-season losing streak. NV was coached for the second year in a row by Jack West. NV’s district was difficult and included three teams that were ranked at some point in the season: Oakland Riverside, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center and Mount Ayr. Non-district games for the team were against West Central Valley and Martensdale-St. Marys.

The one win for the team came against Central Decatur in Week 2 at home.

Nodaway Valley has three first team all-district defensive selections: Caleb Christensen as a linebacker, Keyin Steeve as a defensive back and Ashton Honnold as defensive utility.

Christiensen had a breakout season in leading Nodaway Valley in tackles with 115.5. He also had 10 tackles for loss and two sacks.

Steeve had 43.5 tackles and intercepted three passes for 54 return yards.

NV/OM senior Ashton Honnold (55) flushes WCV quarterback Colton Lindsay from the pocket in last Friday's football game in Greenfield.

Honnold missed some games early this year, yet he still had 66 tackles with two sacks and 15 tackles for loss. Honnold additionally had a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.

Remington Woosley was named to the second team all-district offense as one of three wide receivers, catching 14 passes for 198 yards with a 14.1-yard per catch average this season. A pair of second team defensive picks for the team included defensive lineman junior Derek Raasch and defensive back Titan Foster. Raasch had 17 tackles, two sacks, and two tackles for loss from his lineman position. Foster had 21 tackles, and intercepted a team high four passes for 87 return yards.

Senior Parker Schneider was a durable linemen for the Wolverine defense this season, totaling 27 tackles, one sack and three tackles for loss. Schneider, a senior, was an honorable mention pick.

AC/GC head coach Cody Matthewson was named Coach of the Year after the Chargers won the district title after they didn’t lose a game in district play. The Chargers were 8-0 and 2-1 in three postseason games, losing one game away from the UNI-Dome for the third straight year. AC/GC was 10-1 this year and ranked No. 3 in the state. The district named Mount Ayr’s assistant coaching staff as the district assistant coaches of the year.

Nodaway Valley will graduate seniors Steeve, Matthew Rudolph, Titus Hamer, Honnold, Bryan Gonzalez, Jacob Fry, Will Shilling, Wyatt Boden, Bennet Brown, Brody Brown, Woosley and Schneider. Based on this year’s roster, the Wolverines could have a senior class in 2026 of Derek Raasch, Miles Raasch, Gabe Beaman, Lawson Jackson, Mason Payne, Xavier Shady, Bram Dahl, Christensen, Erik Jensen and Austin Walker.

Nodaway Valley will play four home games in 2026. Teams coming to town next season include AC/GC, Riverside, Southwest Valley and Martensdale-St. Marys. Nodaway Valley will be on the road in weeks 1 and 2 and then home four of the final six weeks of the 2026 season.
