County supervisors schedule budget amendment

Change is due to ongoing projects

Adair County Courthouse

A budget amendment hearing will be held by the Adair County supervisors 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3.

According to Auditor Mandy Berg, the current budget doesn’t have enough in the correct place to cover two secondary roads projects — a bridge in Section 7 of Eureka Township on 170th Street and a bridge in Section 6 of Summerset Township on 227th Street — that are carrying over from last year’s budget.

Two other projects — a box culvert in Section 9 of Lincoln Township and design of a project in Section 36 of Lincoln Township — were added as a contingency because local option sales tax dollars would be used to pay for those if the county doesn’t update its tax increment financing/urban renewal plan.

This amendment would result in an additional $870,000 for the local option sales tax budget.

“He has the funds, we just need the paperwork to do it,” Berg said.

The supervisors added to the amendment docket funds for a representative to go to the National Association of Counties’ annual conference next spring. They see it as a benefit to have a representative there rather than hearing about things discussed later when most of them attend a similar state-level conference.

In other action, the supervisors:

• appointed Patsy Wood of Adair to fill a vacancy on the Adair County Health Board after the passing of Kaye Klemish of Adair

• approved a $450 per month lease agreement for another year for the Adair County Veterans Affairs building on the northwest corner of the square with updated dates

• appointed Chase Drees as a Summit Township trustee after the passing of Kaye Klemish

• approved Adair County Health Systems’ fiscal year 2025 audit

• held a closed session regarding Heart of Iowa’s dissolution and funding issues

• heard an environmental health update from Director Jotham Arber

• held a first tier canvass of the 2025 city/school election results
