Happy Fall from the library

Thankful for a busy October, library remains bustling

Danica Clayton, former youth services director and interim director of Greenfield Public Library, was recently named director of the library.

Happy Fall from the Library! November is a great time to reflect on gratefulness, so we will take a moment to do just that. October was a busy month for the library and holds many examples of things for which we are grateful.

One of the most exciting things in October was that the library saw each grade of the elementary school. Preschool, kindergarten, and first grade all visited the library for stories, exploring the library and checking out books. Transitional Kindergarten, third grade and fourth grade had a visit from the library. Third graders got to hear the story “Creepy Pair of Underwear” and create their own creepy pair of underwear. So, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, there are green, ghoulish underwear hiding all over the junior room at the library created by third graders. Fourth graders tried something new with a First Line Face-off led by Danica. They put chapter books in a head-to-head competition to find out which had the best first line.

The library is ever grateful for the connection with the school, with special appreciation to the teachers and staff that make the field trips and visits possible. Also, thanks to teacher-librarian Mrs. Geidel for always having the door open to collaboration.

We are thankful for the Friends of the Library. The library had its annual Halloween party with over 180 people in attendance. Without the Friends of the Library volunteers, we never could have made it happen. The party was again in conjunction with the Greenfield Fire Department and Firemates’ hot dog supper. It is fantastic to collaborate to make fun events happen.

Finally, we are so grateful for you, our entire community! Our community shows up for the library – the library had over 1,400 people in the door in October. Whether it is the 30 folks who completed a duck for our duck-tober decorating contest to the family that donated eight family history books to enrich our local history section, the library is fortunate to have the support that it does. We are so grateful for our community and we are excited to continue working to serve our community’s needs.

The library looks to be busy again in November with events and extra fun dinosaur activities all month long. Visit our website (greenfield.lib.ia.us) to view our calendar or sign up for our email newsletter. The library calendar of events is also available at the library.
